Electrical Moped

Decided to try to fix an old moped, from 1960 in the hope to learn something about gasoline motors. Found a really cute one online and decided to go for it. Turned out to be too much of a challenge. I cleaned and ultimately changed the carburetor, fixed the wiring, but still backfired and overheated. To continue I’d have to order specialized equipment to get to the electrics. Didn’t help that the Swedish models are downgraded and require special spare parts. So instead of continuing down that money drain, I decided to electrify it.

At this time I moved to Gothenburg so I no longer had proper space. This didn’t deter me however, I had a framed balcony in my small studio apartment I could work in! There I changed the motor to a gocart motor using the original fixtures. Then I sewed leather bags for the battery and electrics, to keep the appearance. This way I could keep the original frame unmodified, which I thought was important. The old motor was donated to a relative as well, so nothing was wasted/altered beyond reversal. The end result is a moped with a range of 60km, has a speed of 30km/h, is silent, and is a blast to cruise around on.
